Survival kit
Perimenopause is a roller coaster, menopause isn’t often much better, so we Crones and Crones-to-Be need something to keep us sane and FRANKLY, ALIVE!
Here’s my Survival Pack.
-
Cuddly Toy
Mine is Poochie the Pooped Pup aka Ms Poochalina the OG Pooped Pup. She has 25 siblings.
-
Music Playlist
The Editors, White Lies, Manic Street Preachers, Amy Winehouse give me life when I am at my wit's end!!
-
Books
If I don’t read a physical book with pages (yeah, those things) I’ll not sleep. Currently on Anthony Horowitz and House of Silk, a Sherlock novel.
-
HRT
I’m dependent on my patches, pills and gels. Without them I am WAAAY worse (let that sink in!).
-
Drink
Water, not booze. I feel more even-keeled when hydrated, so I have several water bottles (stainless steel, none of that plastic shit).
-
Elderberry Herbal Tea
You can try anything, but it’s no caffeine and I have it at night so it doesn’t keep me up.
-
Chocolate
I have a sweet tooth, but don’t like the chemicals in US stuff, so Lindt or Tunnock’s (Scottish brand) are my go-to as they don’t cause migraines.
-
Silk Pillowcase / Eye Mask
This keeps me from smooshing myself when I sleep and blocks out light.
-
Silent Oscillating Fan
Without this I feel like I am bungee jumping in and out of hell all night.
-
Cotton Clothes
Especially underwear and jim-jams. They wick heat off me and still keep me warm.
-
Vitamins
I take a few, but vit D with K2 is a daily, as are my omega-3s.
-
Support Group
I’d be dead without my Sister Crones. Being alone in this is hard (Tatter Cloak’s an honorary member).
-
Protein
Not shakes, just chicken thighs, tinned sardines, peanut butter, tuna. I crave the stuff, so I eat it.
-
Copper Peptide Serum
To keep my Crone skin more supple and less chicken skin.
-
Diary
I have a physical diary that I use to track my moods, sleep, sexual desire, medications, etc.
-
Lube
I use a gentle non-toxic one for if I get the urge, because nothing’s going anywhere without it.
